Our Week So Far

On Monday Keith and I decided that we didn't want to sit and home all day. So we called Grandma and Grandpa (G&G) to see if they wanted to venture out to see the snow. They agreed, so we decided we were going to go to Julian and have some apple pie. G&G were especially brave and took the girls in their truck, and we drove Keith's dads new Jeep. (I don't know that Keith driving the Jeep was such a good idea because now its just another thing on the wish list...) First we stopped and had lunch at a cute little Restaurant on Lake Cuyamaca, and then we made our way up to Julian and had apple pie.

On the way home we decided to take the long way home via Mount Laguna....This is where the adventure began. Some young guy flagged down Keith's dad in the middle of the road. Keith's dad pulled over and it turns out that him and his girlfriend had gotten stuck in the mud off the side of a hill while offroading. Keep in mind its 30 degrees outside and its dark! Of course Keith and his dad had to go rescue this young kid. So I hopped in the truck with Keith's mom and the babies (screaming babies!!) and Doug jumped in the jeep with Keith and we waited while they went to free the kid. They were successful and then we made our way home, over an hour later.

Yesterday Keith cashed in on his day off and went fishing with the boys. I spent the day with Keith's mom. We had a great time! We spent most of the day just loving on the girls, and then we decided to venture out and go shopping at the outlets. The girls were so good, and they just slept most of the time. Keith's mom got them their very first bathing suit! It is absolutely adorable, its pink with a little tutu ruffle around the bottom. I cannot wait until they are big enough, and its warm enough for them to wear them!

The Big News of the week is that Kylee has been pooping regularly all on her own!! We have been having troubles with constipation since she came home from the NICU, and it finally seems as though things are "moving" along as they should.

Today Keith had to go back to work, but he didn't have to be there until noon. We spent the morning finally finishing up the nursery. We hung up the shelves and organized the mounds of stuff we have accumulated for the girls in recent months. It is so cute!! The girls also took their first nap in their cribs today. It went really well. I swaddled them up tight, made sure they were fed and dry and they went right to sleep. I don't know that we are going to attempt it through the whole night yet, but we are making progress at least!!

This afternoon, I took my mom to get her hair done and Uncle Jayson watched the girls. He is so good with them!! I think it is really good birth control for him to babysit them. The girls have been so good today. Just within the last couple of days their little faces are really coming alive with all kinds of cute expressions, they are even starting to smile! They are also having long periods of happy time, where they just like to sit and enjoy their surroundings. It is amazing how much they change on a day to day basis. They are so perfect, and I just love them more and more everyday.

My Day Off

My day off yesterday was so much fun! I went to the Garth Brooks Concert and then we went to Disneyland. I didn't change one diaper or feed one baby all day long. I'm not gonna lie, I missed Keith and the girls soo much but it was nice to get away for a bit.

Keith spent the day yesterday at his parents house with the girls, and it sounds like they had a great time. Keith's mom watched the girls for a bit so he could work on his truck, and I think he even was able to squeeze in a little nap. Keith is so amazing with the girls, they have the best daddy in the whole world. They love him so much.

I feel so Enabled!

So last night we broke out the Happiest Baby on the Block DVD and tried it out. I am still in awe of how well it worked! The girls instantly calmed down, and even feel asleep. That is unheard of in our world during the evening hours. Its so nice to see my babies happy and relaxed. It was amazing!

It looks as though Kylee is going Bald. The hair on the back of her head is falling out. I'm a little sad because I love their hair, but I know that it will grow back. Kaylyn doesn't seem to be losing her hair, but she has always had 2 bald circles in the back of her head. If nothing else, its a way for everyone to be able to tell them apart.

Keith has been gone since yesterday morning. He got off really late last night and decided to stay at his parents house because its a lot closer. He won't be home tonight until about 1am or so, and that's if he doesn't get a late call. Its been a long 2 days, but at least I get tomorrow off. I am going to the Garth Brooks concert in LA, and Keith is going to watch the girls. I cannot wait, I am a little bit fried and could use a couple hours of freedom!

Happiest Babies on the Block!!

The girls new favorite thing is to cry inconsolably as soon as the sun goes down. Another mom recomended that I read the book Happiest Baby on the Block. Yeah right, like I have time to read!! Luckily it also comes in the form of a DVD, and thankfully it arrived today! It teaches you how to teach your baby how to self soothe rather than letting them cry it out. Keep your fingers crossed that it works, and we can overcome this obstacle!!

Keith has been gone since 6am because he had to complete his drug test for his new job. All in all it was a pretty good day with the girls. I am really scared for tonight though because they slept all day, and I am afraid that means that they are going to be up all night. I guess we will have to wait and see.

The girls new favorite thing is to check themselves out in front of the mirror. They love to sit there and stare at themselves. Its so cute! I cannot wait for them to start to interact with me and eachother. Everyday they get stronger and start doing new things. I should be careful what I wish for because before I know it I will be chasing 2 toddlers around!

Moving Over

Now that the girls are 3 1/2 months old, I am going to attempt (key word Attempt!) to try and update this every couple of days or so, so everyone can be in the loop.

Well, even though the girls actual age is 3 1/2 months, their adjusted age (the date from which they were due) is just shy of 1 month. Their adjusted age will be used for all developmental milestones until they are 2 years old. Both of the girls are really starting to get their own individual personalities. Kylee likes everything done HER way, and Kaylyn is our more laid back little lady. They are both starting to have a lot more awake and alert time. They are able to track things with their eyes now, and love to check everything out. They are both really close to being able to hold their heads up on their own. Its still a little wobbly, but we are getting close.

The newest thing in our household is the inconsolable crying as soon as the sun goes down. I talked with the girls pediatrician, and she said that there have been studies done showing that it is very common for newborns to go through this stage. Oh how I am ready for this stage to be over! I have talked to some other moms that have gone through this and they suggested the DVD (it also comes in a book, but like I have time to read!) Happiest Baby on The Block. Apparently it teaches you to teach the babies how to self soothe without them crying it out. So hopefully it comes soon, I just ordered it a couple of days ago.

I don't have any recent weights on the girls, but if I had to guess I would say they are both over 9lbs. Kaylyn is still a little bigger than Kylee. Their next Dr appointment is next Friday and they will both get weighed then. That is also when they will be getting their 4 month shots...that is not going to be fun!

Alright, that is all for now...I have to try to get some sleep while I can.

Long Overdue Update on the Girls

I actually had to go back and read my last blog that I posted because it had been so long I forgot. The girls have now been home for just over a month, and they are definitely keeping us busy... Before I go into news about the girls, there is other news in the Naylor world!

Keith got offered a new job at Miramar as a single role paramedic. He will be working as a civilian at the Miramar marine base. It is about twice as much money, full retirement, and he will get all of the benefits of being in the military. He is super excited. Next Tuesday he has a physical and a drug test, and I'm sure its not going to be much longer after that until he starts. He will be staying part time at Rural Metro because Miramar isn't that busy and he wants to keep his skills up.

We also found out last week that Keith won 2 free tickets to Hawaii! Apparently, Hawaiian airlines donated them in light of the recent fires and they did a raffle drawing and Keith won! We don't know when exactly we are going yet, but probably sometime this year. We will be taking the girls with us as they can just ride on our laps. If anyone needs a trip to Hawaii after the last year of our lives-Its us!!

Now onto our little darlings. They are both getting so big. Kylee had a Dr appointment yesterday and she weighed 8lbs 6oz. Kaylyn didn't get weighed but I am sure that she is over 9lbs, she is our little porker. Kylee also had her eyes checked last week and all of her retinopathy is gone!! They are both as healthy as can be now.

I am starting to get this twin mommy thing down. Its definitely challenging at times, but we muscle through it. I have mastered the skill of feeding and burping two babies simulaneously. Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I turn on TLC and watch the moms with quints and sextuplets and then I don't feel so bad.

The nights aren't nearly as bad as they used to be. Partly because I have mastered feeding them both at the same time and partly because they are sleeping more. I will typically feed them around 11 and then they will wake up between 3-4 (then they go right back to sleep) and then they will wake up between 6-7. Its not so bad, it really could be a lot worse.

They are starting to get more control over holding their heads up. They still have a little ways to go, but I don't think it will be too much longer. We do a lot of tummy time and that helps strengthen their muscles.

Today they were both soo fussy, so I decided to take them on their first walk around the neighborhood. The minute we left the house, they were instantly calm and couldn't have been happier. They were both wide awake just checking everything out. Then of course once we got back home, they resumed their screaming. It looks like they are going to be outside girls.

Well I just got them both down for a nap and I am going to take advantage of this time and go take a shower! I am so excited!! It's the little things in life these days.
