Rolling Over!

Yesterday Kaylyn rolled over by herself. I am not convinced that it was intentional. I think she accidentally ended up that way. She was not to happy when she landed on her tummy, and so I had to immediately turn her over. It is still progress none the less! I'm sure it won't be too long and they will be rolling all over the place!

Kylee is balding more and more each day. Her beautiful hair is falling out! I know that it will grow back, but it makes me sad. I love their hair. If nothing else I guess her balding is another way that other people can more easily tell them apart. Kaylyn still has most of her hair, but she has a huge bald patch on the back of her head.

They both have started giggling and cooing all the time now. Its so fun to get them all excited and happy. I think they are both boy crazy already. They both light up whenever they are around boys. Daddy is going to have to start cleaning that shot gun sooner than we thought.

They are also able to track things really well with their eyes now. They will follow people or objects with their, and they will even turn their head. They will be 2 months old adjusted age tomorrow, and so far it seems as though they are right on track if not a little bit ahead.

In just the last week or so they have cut out one of their night time feedings, and are now sleeping from 6 or 7 at night until 3 or 4 in the morning! Its so nice! We are so close to sleeping through the night!! I am very excited for that! I think their reflux medicine has played a big part in making them comfortable which allows them to sleep for longer periods of time, nap times included.

I guess that is all for now. I hope all is well with everyone! Have a Great Day!

The Girls' First River Trip!

Keith finally had 4 days off in a row this week, so we decided to take advantage of it and head out to the river. And we are so glad that we did. We packed up the girls (including Bandit) and met Keith's parents down there.

The girls were so good the entire 3 hour car ride and hardly made a peep. They slept most of the way. We took them on a nice long walk with grandma and grandpa, they played in their bouncy chairs, and Keith even took them fishing (one at a time) by wearing the front carrying pack. It was great to spend time as a family, especially since Keith has been working so much. The Girls were just so happy to be outside! The weather was beautiful between 70 and 80 everyday. It was so much fun! I am so thankful that the girls have such awesome grandparents, they are amazing with them! I cannot wait for our next trip out, which will probably be easter weekend.

Bouncy Chairs to the Rescue!

Well Keith has been gone since last Friday, and it has been very challenging to say the least. Thankfully the Prevacid for the girls' reflux has helped tremendously! They are both much happier babies, and I am a happy mommy knowing that they feel better!

Their new favorite thing to do lately is to be bounced. Well bouncing 2 babies on your legs for hours on end is no easy task. So on Sunday I decided to go to Babies R Us and invest in some bouncy chairs. These things have been a God send! They both love them. The bouncy chairs have an activity bar on them that has all kinds of interesting things for them to look at. It keeps them entertained for quite a while.

Today something miraculous happened-Both of the girls took a nap at the SAME time for 4 hours!! It was so great. Everyone I have told then asks me what I did with all my free time, and I am quick to point out that I slept with them! We had a great nap together.

I called the NICU today and talked to the girls primary nurse Urvashi. Last week I sent 4 of the nurses thank you cards with pictures of the girls and I just wanted to make sure that they got them. According to Urvashi, they all LOVED them! I think we might set up a lunch date next week so they can see how much the girls have grown. I am really excited, they were all so amazing with the girls...

Tomorrow we are off to our first trip to the River with the girls. I am a little scared that its going to be a lot to handle, but I am hopeful everything will be fine. Grandma and Grandpa are going to be out there, so there will be extra hands which is always nice. The weather is supposed to be nice in the mid 70's. Maybe I will even get a few minutes to read my new book- Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. Its amazing how much everything in your life changes when you have kids. I would have never pictured myself reading such a book!

Now that the girls are both sleeping soundly, I am going to join them and get some sleep. We have a big day ahead of us tomorrow! Wish us Luck

Teething, Reflux and I think they're getting Sick!!

The last few days have been miserable! I ended up going to grandma's house on Tuesday and Wednesday so she could help me with my incredibly fussy babies. Kaylyn had been chomping on her hands and drooling quite a bit, so we looked in her mouth, and she has a bump on her gums where a tooth is trying to come through, and you can see the tooth through her gums. I could not beleive that she is teething already!! I bought her some baby oragel and some teething rings hoping that would do the trick.

So yesterday she was still so fussy, and had been protesting naps all together for the last few days, so we decided to take her to the Doctor just to be sure everything was OK. The Dr confirmed that yes in fact she is teething, and she also thought that she has really bad reflux which was also contributing to her fussiness. She recommended that we try giving her prevacid to help with that. We gave her the first dose last night and so far it seems to be helping.

Then this morning, both of the girls sound really congested and have been coughing. Ugh!! What a week they chose to get sick! Keith had yesterday off but he had to go back to work this morning and won't be home for the next 4 days!

Wish Me Luck!

Day from Hell!

Today was Keith's first day at his new job, and my first day of many home alone with the girls. I don't know what it was, but ALL day the girls were crying. I don't think there was more than 5 minutes all day long where both of them were quiet. Neither one of them took a nap that was more than 20 minutes long. Right when they would fall asleep, they would wake up screaming at the top of their lungs.

Finally at about 4:30, I called the expert (grandma) and asked her for some advice. We both thought that maybe they were constipated, and the q-tip solution was in order. Usually Keith does this, but that was not an option as he will not be home until Thursday. So I geared myself up for this adventure, got all the supplies and low and behold Kylee had already pooped (A Lot!!), that was a relief! Now it was on to Kaylyn and wouldn't you know it, she pooped too! I think they heard me talking to grandma about the q-tips and they beat me to it. Unfortunately it doesn't seem as though pooping was the problem after all. It has been 4 hours since the great poop and they are still fussy as can be. They are fed, changed, clean and swaddled. I have tried everything I can think of. Even the Happiest Baby on the Block can't hold up to them today. They are both just now starting to doze off, but definitely still fighting it. I can't imagine that they are not exhausted, they have been up ALL day!! I am hoping that tomorrow is better. We are going to go down to grandma's early! I am going to go crazy if I stay here and endure a repeat of today.

As I said earlier Keith started his new job today. I haven't really had a chance to talk to him, but he has sent me a few text messages and things seem to be going well. He has yet to even run one call. I think he is pretty bored. He is going to have to invest in some books or something. So originally we thought that his last day of this long stretch was going to be next Wednesday morning, well it turns out he has training until next Friday (the 22nd). So between now and next Friday he will have the 14th off and that is all. His new schedule will be 48 hours on, 24 hours off, 8 hours on, 48 hours off, 48 hours on, 24 hours off, 8 hours on, 96 hours off. Yeah, we will need a calendar to keep track of that! But its pretty cool that every 2 weeks he will get 4 days off, that will make for some good river trips!

Alright, well I am going to enjoy the few minutes of peace and quiet that I have.

Our 4 Month Check Up

So I am still debating whether this appointment was more traumatic for me or them. They both got their 4 month vaccinations today, which consisted of 5 separate shots (3 in one thigh and 2 in the other). They did very well considering. They cried a bit and then they calmed down and went to sleep. I will be keeping an eye on them and making sure that they don't spike a fever.

On a good note, their growth scales have improved dramatically. Amazingly they are on the lower end (3-5th percentile for height and weight) of actual 4 month olds!! For their gestational age of 28 weeks, they are in the 85-90th percentile. Kylee weighed in at 9lbs 13oz and 22 1/2 inches long, and Kaylyn was 10lbs 9oz and 22 3/4 inches long. Kylee's head measured in the 5th percentile, and Kaylyns head was much bigger in the 25th percentile (that's why her daddy calls her mega dome!). The Dr. does want them both to spend a little bit more time on the left side of their heads to even things out. Apparently they favor their right side, and its causing them to have a very minor lop-sided head.

They are right on track developmentally for their adjusted age of 6 weeks. They are smiling and really starting to focus their attention on people and things. This is exactly what they should be doing. Dr.McCormick was very happy with their progress!

Right now they are sleeping peacefully. I just drugged them up with some tylenol (on the expert advice of grandma) to hopefully help keep their temperature and discomfort under control. I am so proud of my baby girls!!

What a Fun Day!

Everyday it is so amazing to see how much the girls learn and grow. Today we had so much fun. I was laying with both of the girls and they were all smiles! Kylee found her foot and thought it was the greatest thing ever! Then I put them in front of the mirror and they both couldn't get enough of themselves. They were just thrilled!! It was so great to see them interact and be so incredibly happy! I wish I had a video camera so I could share it with you!

Bandit is really coming around to the idea of having the girls around. She is getting more and more comfortable with them. Today she gave Kylee quite a few loving kisses, and Kylee just laid there and smiled. I hope its the beginning of a great friendship!

I was hoping to get out and take the girls on a walk today, but the day got away from me. Maybe we can squeeze one in tomorrow before the girls have to go to the Dr and get their 4 month shots. I am not excited about this appointment tomorrow. It is so hard to hear my babies squeal in pain, but I know its a necessary evil and it has to be done. Tomorrow I should have updated weights of the girls, hopefully Kylee broke 10lbs this week. They are both getting so big!

Our Babies are 4 Months Old Today!!

It is amazing how much they have changed in 4 months. They have gone from 2lbs, limp, unable to breath on their own to 10lbs, smiling, strong, and full of personality! They really are little miracles.

The girls are now wearing size 0-3 month clothes. When I was first going through all the clothes that we had gotten, I remember thinking how HUGE the 0-3 month size were, and that they wouldn't be able to wear it until they were 2. Boy was I wrong, the girls are so big now. Its hard to believe that they have already outgrown some of their clothes.

Keith has been home the last few days, and it has been so nice to be able to spend time together. On Sunday we took the girls to a friends house for a super bowl party, and then we made our way down to Grandma and Grandpa's house. We had a very nice visit with them, and then we came home yesterday morning.

Keith has finally completed the Kitchen Remodel!!! This has been a project in progress since last July, and its so nice now that it is all done. We (Keith) ripped out the old counter tops and tiled them, re-did the cabinets, put in new sink, stove, microwave and refrigerator, and laid a whole new floor. It is so Beautiful!! Keith did a fabulous job!! I LOVE it!! Our next home improvement project will be the backyard, but we probably wont start that until March or April.

We are enjoying our little girls so much. They are having a lot more awake and happy time! They are definitely, without a doubt Daddy's Girls! They both just light up every time they are with their daddy. Keith is amazing with them. I could not ask for a better husband and daddy to my girls.

We had a GREAT Dr's Appointment Today

So apparently I am lacking a little bit in the memory department, and I thought for sure today was the day the girls were scheduled to get their immunizations. Well, I was wrong...it's next Friday. Anyways, the girls had to go to the Dr today to get their Synagis shot (an RSV vaccination that helps build immunities so they are not as prone to getting sick). So the official weigh ins go as follows- Kylee weighed 9lbs 7oz and Kaylyn weighed 10lbs 3oz. They have pretty much trippled in size since they were born!! Dr. McCormick was very pleased with their progress and says that they look perfect. It is so nice to hear that so far neither one of them has any lingering effects from their prematurity as of yet.

I came home to a nice surprise this evening. Apparent Bandit (the dog formerly known as Dammit) has taken a liking to eating poopy diapers. Can we say EWWW!! I had put her in the garage before I left, and I came home and she had ransacked through the garbage bags and their were pieces of diaper everywhere!! What a mess! That was fun to clean up. I pretty much sterilized myself with bleach after that adventure. Note to self: Do not leave dog alone with access to the diapers...

Keith got the official word that he will start his new job on Feb. 11th. He is so excited!! The first week he starts is going to be a doozie though. He is going to work Monday through Wednesday Yes 72 hours straight! But wait, it gets better. then he will work Friday through the following Tuesday. He is doing this for 2 reasons- 1) He is starting in the 2nd week of the pay period and he needs the hours so that his insurance will kick in, and 2) We need the money. It is going to be interesting and challenging being home with the girls for that extended amount of time, but I am sure that we will manage.

I am now going to try and get some sleep before the girls wake up for their next feeding. We have had a busy day running errands, and Dr's appointments and such.
