Our First ZOO Trip!!

Today we took the girls to the Zoo for the very first time, and we all had a blast. The girls were incredibly well behaved (they didn't so much as make a fuss ALL day!), and they were ever so happy to be outside with so much to look at. Our favorite part was the petting zoo. The girls both lit up with the sight of all those animals, and they even reached out to pet them. It was precious! As a special treat, Auntie Danielle and her friend Lindsay also came with us, and the girls just adore the two of them! We bought year passes, so I am sure we will be going often. I can't wait!


A while back we had gotten the girls bath seats, but up until now they were still too small to use them. We tried them out last night for the first time. It was so cool that the girls got to enjoy bath time together. They really seemed to like them.

Everyday the girls are starting to notice each other more and more. They grab for each other, and will even hold each others hand while in the stroller. When we lay them on the ground for playtime, they will "talk" to each other, and go on and on. Its so cute. I can't wait to see the bond that is going to develop between the two of them.

Please disregard Keith's facial hair in the family photo. Its only temporary, I Promise. They have a bet going at the fire station to see who can grow the worst mustache, and Keith is convinced he has this one in the bag. We are all going to have to live with it until June 5th! This Mommy is tired after such a long day, so that's all for now!

Better Late than Never

So I will be the first to admit, that I have slacked on my blogging and haven't updated since the Girls Dr's appointment last Friday. They had an awesome appointment. Both of the girls are right on track developmentally for 5 month olds, and maybe even slightly ahead. Kylee weighed 14lbs 7oz, and Kaylyn weighed 15lbs 14oz. Both of the girls will be evaluated in July to assess how they are doing developmentally, and if necessary they will get PT or OT, or both. Eventually we will have to bridge the 3 month gap between their actual age and their adjusted age, so we will just have to wait and see how it goes.

The weather here has been yucky the past few days. Its been really cold and rainy so we have had to spend a lot of time inside. The girls love to play on the floor together with all of their toys and each other. Its really cute, Kaylyn will nearly roll on top of Kylee and poke at her face and grab her hair. Kylee doesn't seem to mind though.

I have been putting the girls in their exersaucer in the last few days, and for the first time they are actually interested in it. They will sit forever and go around and play with each toy individually. Their motor skills are really coming along. I keep telling myself I need to get a picture, but I have been slacking on that too.

Keith has been at work yesterday and today, so the girls and I spent the last couple of days down at Grandma and Grandpa's house. Auntie Marcy was in town and she even came up and we went to lunch and to target. It was so good to finally see her!!

Our Little Rollie Pollie

Kaylyn can no longer be trusted anywhere unattended unless its on ground level. In the last couple of weeks she has really mastered the whole rolling thing, and she is all over the place! Yesterday I put her on her quilt and went to get her sister and by the time I had come back she had rolled a good 10 feet from where I left her! Everyone always told me the fun would really begin when they become mobile, and I guess this is the first step!

Kylee is SO close to rolling over. She makes it about 70% of the way and then she gets over it and goes back onto her back. I think it will only be a couple of days until she has it down.

This morning I had both of the girls on my bed and we were waiting for daddy to come home from work. I was feeding Kylee and I looked over and Kaylyn was sitting next to our cat Gizmo and had a death grip on her tail and was putting it in her mouth! YUCK!! Thankfully, I think I looked over just in time.

The girls both have a Dr's appointment tomorrow, so I will finally get to see how much they weigh!! I feel like we haven't been to the Dr in forever, which of course is a good thing! I will update after the appointment tomorrow!

What a Fun Week!!

We left for the River on Tuesday, and it was absolutely beautiful down there! We took the girls on their first boat ride, and tried out the new life jackets. The girls did great! They didn't even mind the wind blowing in their faces, or the loud noise of the boat. It was a great success!

We also brought the girls little pool down there with us because the River water is still to cold to go swimming in. It heated up to a perfect temperature and the girls went swimming with daddy. They had so much fun kicking and splashing!



This morning Keith and I took the girls to the park and we put both of the girls in the infant swing, one facing one way and the other facing the other way. They were thrilled! I could not believe how much they liked it! Coincidentally there was another set of twin girls there that were 5 and they were fascinated with Kylee and Kaylyn. We are definitely going to have to go to the park more often.

31lbs of Baby!

We did an unofficial weigh in earlier this week when we were down at grandma and grandpa's house and Kaylyn weighed about 16lbs and Kylee weighed in at 15lbs. I cannot believe how big they are getting!

We have been working on solid foods, and everyday they get better and better at it. So far we have tried sweet potatoes, peas, and prunes. I had to move to the prunes because I also started giving them oatmeal in the evenings and it was causing them to be incredibly constipated. The prunes really seemed to help with that. I also started mixing the oatmeal with apple juice to help keep things moving along. So far it seems to be working!

Both of the girls Love to stand now. They get such a kick out of themselves, its great! Kaylyn finally found her feet, although she is not nearly as interested in them as Kylee is.

Today marks one week of CIO. I would say that it is going pretty well. Although its incredibly hard to listen to them cry, they are sleeping so much better and for longer periods of time. They are also so much happier when they are awake. I would have to say its definitely worth it. Keith and I actually have time to spend together again because bedtime doesn't take 3 hours! Not to mention I feel like a much better mommy because I am rested and have the energy to play with and enjoy my babies.

We are going to the River next week, and Grandma and I have been in search of life jackets for the girls so they can go on their first boat ride. Let me tell you, its no easy task to find infant life jackets! Apparently not a lot of people take their babies on boats. I finally found 2 today, and they are so cute! The best part is they were on sale, buy one get one 50% off- That's our kind of deal!!

Tomorrow will be my first mothers day, and unfortunately Keith is working. I am going to take the girls down to the fire station, and all the firefighters/paramedics are going to make the mommies dinner. It should be a lot of fun.

7 Months Old!

Yesterday the girls turned 7 months old! I cannot believe how fast the time is going. Everyday they both get so much more fun, and I thoroughly enjoy watching them grown and learn each. I wish I had current weights for them, as they are getting absolutely HUGE to me but they don't go back to the Dr until the end of the month, so we will just have to wait and see. I am so proud of both of them!

So last Sunday night was night 2 of CIO and the girls both slept from 6pm-4am...yes, 10 hours!!! Then they both went right back to sleep after they ate and slept until 8am. I actually woke up around 1:30 and checked on them to make sure they were still breathing. Nap time is still more of a struggle than bed time is, but I really think they are starting to "get it". As hard as it is to hear them cry, I really think that it is starting to pay off. Daddy and I are finally able to get some long overdue sleep! Everyday it gets just a little bit easier for all of us!

Kaylyn has started consistently rolling over now from her back to her tummy, and prefers to sleep on her tummy. Whenever we put her in her bouncy chair now we have to make sure that she is strapped in tight because there have been a couple times where I have seen her attempting to squirm out of there. Kylee is very close to rolling over, and sleeps all the way over on her side but hasn't made it all the way over yet.

Today I am going to take the girls to the fire station to visit daddy at work so that he can show them off. Then we are going to continue on our journey to visit Grandpa and Grandma for the day. It should be fun, I just wish the weather was nicer. Its been overcast and cold.

So Far, So Good!

So we all survived the first night of CIO, no swaddling and no binkies!! And I am very proud to report that the girls did AMAZING!! Kylee slept from 7-10, got up to eat and then went right back down, and slept from 10:30-6:45 this morning!! Kaylyn slept from 7-3, got up to eat and then went down and slept until 7:15!! They each got an 8 hour stretch in, which is unheard of in our world!!

We are still working on naps in the crib, and today was not as successful as I would have liked but it was not completely terrible either. I think its just going to take some adjusting. Tonight both of the girls were out within 15 minutes of being put down. I have heard that it can get worse before it gets better, so I am preparing myself for that. But so far, so good.

Today the girls were both in their bouncy chairs and I decided to feed them their oatmeal in there rather than moving them to their high chairs. So I got the oatmeal ready and fed it to them. They did great, and the evidence was ALL over their face. It was a mess! It was in their eyebrows, in their hair, all over their hands-you get the idea. So I went into the nursery to get a washcloth to get them cleaned up. When I got back both of their faces were spotless! Apparently Bandit cleaned them up in my absence. Kind of gross, but funny none the less.

Both of the girls are now able to push themselves into a standing position if you hold their hands for balance. We are working on sitting unassisted as well, but we are still pretty wobbly with that one. All in good time! I cannot believe that they are going to be 7 months old next week!

Im a Crazy Woman!

I think I have officially lost any sanity I had remaining! For the past few nights both of the girls have been waking up at 1am and refuse to go back to sleep. We try to feed them and they will only eat 1oz, if that. So that tells me that they are not hungry. They will continue to cry and cry, but when I pick them up they instantly stop crying. So that tells me that nothing is wrong. So today in my complete and utter sleep deprived state, Keith and I made the executive decision to begin Cry It Out (CIO) Sleep Training. We only wanted to use CIO as a last resort, and that time has come.

I figured while I am at it I might as well do away with Swaddling and Binkies as well. Why not get it all done in one fail swoop?!?! One of the problems with their sleep habits is that they spit out their binkies and get mad and if they are swaddled they can't do anything about it. On the flip side if we unswaddle them and leave their binkies, they swat at their face and lose their binky and get mad. So its a no win situation. Its time to do away with both!

Let me tell you this CIO is NOT for the faint at heart. It is so hard to have to listen to them cry. I just want to run in there and rescue them, but I know that will not benefit any of us. Its going to be a rough few days, but I am hopeful that it will be great for everyone in the end.

Our first attempt at this new routine went well, I put them in their cribs and they only cried for about 15 minutes and slept for an hour and a half. Bedtime was a little different story. Kalyn cried for about 30 minutes until she fell asleep, and Kylee cried for over an hour until she was out. I guess we will have to see how tonight goes. To top it all off Keith got mandatoried at work today so he will not be home until Monday morning, so I am doing all of this solo!

Solid Foods

This morning I got a call from the girls Dr, I had tried contacting her earlier in the week but since I hadn't heard from her I went ahead and made the girls an appointment for tomorrow. Anyway, I talked to her about the girls prevacid dose and she suggested rather than giving them the entire 15mg solutab at once, to break it in half and give half in the morning and half at night. I am hoping that works. She also gave us the go ahead for Solid Foods!!!

We are going to start with veggies and the cereals (rice, oatmeal, and barley) and then we will move on to the yummy fruits. Their Dr told me to give them one veggie for 5 or 6 days to rule out any food allergies and then move forward with the next one. Keith picked Sweet potatoes for their very first solid meal. They did great with it, and even seemed to enjoy it quite a bit. Its fun to add a new dimension to our days!

So needless to say, since I talked with their pedi this morning there is really no need for the girls to go in tomorrow to see her. I went ahead and canceled their appointment. I am a little disappointed because I was really looking forward to seeing how much they weigh, but I have to take them in at the end of this month for a check up so we will find out then.
